PMS Cycle

That was weird. I was feeling down on Friday for a couple of reasons. I was tired out from the long week at work and time spent accompanying him (as Murphy would have it, his work is currently on a down cycle). I had watched a Taiwanese variety show recounting how some boyfriends pampered their partners, and had felt rather shortchanged. I also knew that the impending onset of my period was contributing to the negativity.

My original title to this post has actually been "Our Collection of Hopelessly Impossible Dreams".

But my period came like clockwork on Saturday. We went shopping that night, fought like kids to finish three scoops of yummy New Zealand Natural's ice-cream, and chatted all the way to our late dinner.

Midway through, his buddies called him to watch a famous stand-up comedy, but he wasn't keen. I was astounded: "But I heard it's really funny! I thought you'll be interested!"

"Oh you like? I didn't know. You want to go? It'll be with a whole bunch of guys though."

Lightbulbs lit like brilliant beacons in the dark sea of my mind. So I wasn't a secret after all??

We got home, showered, applied a face mask, played some PSP (he killed the monsters, I watched), and then cozied up on the couch for an exciting EPL match telecast.

Oh, and PMS blues were nowhere to be found.

Next morning, I woke him up with a jump. Yikes almost 9am! Late for soccer! After sending him on his way, I fell back to a doze.

Later, he sms-ed to ask what I wanted for lunch. He was buying for me, so I didn't have to go out to brave the summer heat. First time he was feeding me.

As the unrelenting sun melted into a windy torrential storm that cooled the afternoon air, we alternated between watching TV, playing PSP, and me feeding him while I myself ate. Bread, bubble tea, chng tng...

He treated me to dinner at an open-air cafe nearby, courtesy of his boss's lost soccer bet. Chilling out, we chatted about his career, the kind of super power we'll want to have (we were watching X-Men on TV), whether Orientalism would ever be eradicated.

By no means a remarkable weekend to most, it was 2 days of many firsts for me. I was also startled by the realization of our synchronicity and rhythm: passing him his PSP before he asked for it, checking his phone just before he did so himself... Had we actually progressed so far?

Simple as it was, but perfect for me.
